TAG, You're It! - Makeup Questions

Hey guys. Long time, no post. Sorry! I honestly haven't had much inspiration makeup-wise as of recent, and have only been wearing very minimal makeup (foundation and mascara) on a daily basis. It's easy, lightweight and I can be done and ready to go in like 2 seconds...okay a little longer than that but you get the idea :P
So it's almost 5am here and I cannot for the life of me fall asleep. I browsed the internet for something to do and came upon this makeup survey, similar to those silly ones I use to fill out on MySpace (and still occasionally do on my Facebook...I know I know, no one reads those but they pass the time) and thought I'd fill it out. On that note I'm making this a tag, and invite anyone and everyone who'd like to fill it out to do so as well! If you do, leave a comment below linking to your page so I can check it out :)
Right, onto the questions!

How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I think I was 14 when I started wearing eyeliner and mascara, and around 15 I started using eyeshadow as well. I didn't even touch foundation until I turned 18 or 19.

Who taught you to apply makeup?
Myself. I am my own teacher, however various YouTube gurus have taught me some pretty useful tips.

What's your favorite eye makeup look to wear?

Hmm, this one's a tie. As much as I love to sport super vibrant and dramatic eyeshadow I also love a crisp, clean winged eyeliner on a bare eye.

What's your favorite makeup brand?
Another tough one! Sugarpill is fantastic, and so is Glamour Doll Eyes. As far as drugstore brands go, I really enjoy Annabelle's eyeshadow pigments.

Do you wear foundation on a daily basis?
Mostly, but only if I'm going somewhere.

Have you ever worn false eyelashes?

Yes and I love them, however my eyes are so bloody rounded that the typical full ones tend to lift super easily shortly after I apply them. I only ever had luck with demi's and half-length lashes.

What makeup do you wear everyday?
Foundation and mascara.

Do you prefer high end brands or drugstore?

I like a mix of both. I believe you can find absolutely fantastic products at the drugstore as well as in department stores. You just have to really do your research and compare things before you buy.

What color are your eyes?

Very green.

What color of eyeshadows make your eyes pop?

Purples and pinks have the best effect on enhancing my eye colour. I find black makes the green in my eyes look brighter.

Do you use makeup brushes? What brand?

I use a combination of Crown brushes and Quo brand brushes.

Do you prefer lipstick, lipgloss, or neither?

Hmm. This depends. I really love light-coloured to red lipsticks, however anything darker than a candy-apple red I just cannot pull off. Lipgloss is either hit or miss with me; if it's too sticky, I can't wear it no matter how much I like the shade. If I had to choose though, I'd pick lipstick.

What's 1 makeup product you cant live without?
Foundation. Every artist needs to start on an even canvas.

Why do you wear makeup?
Two reasons. First, when I was a teenager I never thought twice about my skin in the long run and didn't take very good care of it. I have a bit of acne scarring along my jawbone and on my forehead in small areas that I like to cover up, along with some pretty much permanent under eye circles (had them since I was a kid, plus weird sleep patterns don't help). Second, to enhance my facial features; I love how just a bit of eyeliner or some interesting eyeshadow combinations can really define your eye shape or brighten your entire face, for example.

Glitter or no glitter?
Heck yes! But not too much :)

What is one makeup trend you never understood?
Oh god, where to start?? I'd say the worst would be that dark lip liner with nothing else on the lips. GAH! Just what is attractive about that? On the subject of drawn-on things...Badly drawn-on brows. I'm not against drawing on your eyebrows, but if it looks like your makeup is by Crayola I'm not intrigued.

Sponge or brush for applying foundation?
Both are nice, however I'm better with a brush.

Pencil, gel or liquid eyeliner?
Gel! It's so versatile.

Favorite era of makeup?
50's-60's looks were so elegant and timeless.

Finally, a tip you wish everyone knew:
Use an eyeshadow primer/base! I know it's simple but there are some people that don't use one and their eyeshadow ends up splotchy and uneven, plus it's a pain in the behind to blend out colours without it. If you don't have anything try using a liquid foundation mixed with the tiniest amount of translucent powder. It will make a world of a difference, trust me.

Well that was my makeup tag. Again feel free to comment with a link to yours, I'd love to read your own responses to these questions!

Rainbow Brite: Contest entry for Glamour Doll Eyes

Hey guys, long time no post (well it's only been a week, but still) I've been super busy with work and just general life stuff. Oh well, time to play with makeup!

Glamour Doll Eyes is currently holding a contest for the month of March, of which the theme is your favourite cartoon. Growing up I was fascinated by Rainbow Brite, who I could probably pinpoint as being my root cause for being attracted to bright and bold colours. You can also enter the contest as many times as you like, so who knows what else I'll come up with! I'm thinking a Smurfs theme :)

Anyways, here's what my first entry looks like:

With flash:

I honestly wish I kept track of what products I used, as I basically grabbed random things and put them on, haha. I do know however that the eyeliner is Glamour Doll Eyes "Fabulous" eyeshadow and "Techno" eyelight glitter in the outer corner.

Good luck to anyone who's entered the contest!

My Favourite Polish Combination EVER - Purple / Green Duochrome

My nails are (usually) always painted. I'm not a huge fan of naked tips and I'm one who basically needs colour in my life, so it's no surprise that those colours tend to be on the bold side. Duo chromes are no exception to this rule, as they're basically my favourite colour effect of all time. That's not just limited to makeup - I have a real affection for cars (especially late 60's - 70's muscle cars) and at a car show a few years back there was a 1970 Dodge Challenger with this AMAZING pink and gold duo chrome paint job. Ever since then I've dreamed of owning a pretty duo chrome-y Mustang :D
Anyhow! Back to nails, haha.
I've found the best way to get some really cool duo chromes is to layer a sheer, shimmery polish over a creme or more opaque shimmery shade. Thus was the case when I created this manicure right here (Please excuse my slight tip wear, work is rough on the nails)

Amazing, don't you think? More pics and how I created this look after the jump! :)

Sparkling Sapphire Smokey Eye - FotD

I think I'm developing an addiction to blogging, it's quite fun.
Well that, and I don't know how to shut up sometimes :P
Anyhow, Face of the Day (FOTD) time!
I've been playing with loose eyeshadows more than usual these days - shimmery pigments to be more specific - and using different coloured bases to give certain shades more dimension or depth. Such was the case when I created this deep blue smokey eye for today using Sugarpill's loose eyeshadow pigment in Magpie. I found that by applying it over a smudged- out charcoal grey eyeliner, it toned down the intensity just enough to help smoke out the edges and blend into my skin more evenly. For added depth to my eye I applied a medium taupe colour to the crease and blended it slightly. Black eyeliner and mascara complete this fun twist on the typical smokey eye.

In daylight:

Products used:
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner - Gunmetal (smudged around lash line)
- Sugarpill Chromalust loose eyeshadow - Magpie
- Annabelle pressed eyeshadow - Fantasy (used to blend Magpie at edges)
- Mac eyeshadow - Wedge (in crease only)
- Maybelline Eye Studio gel liner - Black (waterline)
- NYX Doll Eye mascara - Black

I'm loving how this looks on my skin tone. I haven't been one to give navy/dark blue a chance on me, though blue is one of my favourite colours. Also might I add that I'm dying to make my first online order for Sugarpill?! I received a few of their shadows as gifts but wow, I definitely want to try more!
