<br />
While I should be apologizing relentlessly for my extended absence, it was a much needed break and I feel refreshed and excited to be blogging again. I have also moved to Winnipeg not long ago, and even started a new personal blog to record everything and anything interesting in my new life. You can check it out if you'd like by clicking <a href="http://fromscotiawithlove.blogspot.ca/">right here!</a><br />
<br />
I'll have a new post on this blog sometime next week or so.<br />
<br />
It's good to be back :)Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03732238374567470998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986933833755863244.post-44945956571835901412012-03-29T19:53:00.002-03:002012-03-29T19:53:43.160-03:00Lizard Within - Special Effects Makeup & ContactsHey guys! Sorry for the major absence, no other valid reason other than my life got busy and I did a bunch of stuff apart from makeup, and just didn't have the time to update my blog.<br />I've missed my awesome readers!<br />Anyhow, I'll get right into it. This reptilian look is actually a contest entry I came up with for Clearly Contact's Get Creepy for Cash Contest, of which the first prize was $1000. It was held around Halloween last year, and the only requirement was that you featured a pair of their special effect contact lenses in your costume. The good news: I WON!<br />Here's the look:<br /><br />

I will be doing a video tutorial for this look around Halloween this year. Keep an eye out for it!<br /><br />It's good to be back :)Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03732238374567470998noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986933833755863244.post-71206693848932877702011-03-28T05:41:00.000-03:002011-03-28T05:41:53.518-03:00TAG, You're It! - Makeup Questions<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Hey guys. Long time, no post. Sorry! I honestly haven't had much inspiration makeup-wise as of recent, and have only been wearing very minimal makeup (foundation and mascara) on a daily basis. It's easy, lightweight and I can be done and ready to go in like 2 seconds...okay a little longer than that but you get the idea :P</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">So it's almost 5am here and I cannot for the life of me fall asleep. I browsed the internet for something to do and came upon this makeup survey, similar to those silly ones I use to fill out on MySpace (and still occasionally do on my Facebook...I know I know, no one reads those but they pass the time) and thought I'd fill it out. On that note I'm making this a tag, and invite anyone and everyone who'd like to fill it out to do so as well! If you do, leave a comment below linking to your page so I can check it out :)</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Right, onto the questions!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">How old were you when you started wearing makeup?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I think I was 14 when I started wearing eyeliner and mascara, and around 15 I started using eyeshadow as well. I didn't even touch foundation until I turned 18 or 19.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Who taught you to apply makeup?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Myself. I am my own teacher, however various YouTube gurus have taught me some pretty useful tips.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
<i>What's your favorite eye makeup look to wear?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Hmm, this one's a tie. As much as I love to sport super vibrant and dramatic eyeshadow I also love a crisp, clean winged eyeliner on a bare eye</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What's your favorite makeup brand?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Another tough one! Sugarpill is fantastic, and so is Glamour Doll Eyes. As far as drugstore brands go, I really enjoy Annabelle's eyeshadow pigments.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Do you wear foundation on a daily basis?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Mostly, but only if I'm going somewhere.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
<i>Have you ever worn false eyelashes?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Yes and I love them, however my eyes are so bloody rounded that the typical full ones tend to lift super easily shortly after I apply them. I only ever had luck with demi's and half-length lashes.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What makeup do you wear everyday?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Foundation and mascara. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
<i>Do you prefer high end brands or drugstore?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I like a mix of both. I believe you can find absolutely fantastic products at the drugstore as well as in department stores. You just have to really do your research and compare things before you buy.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
<i>What color are your eyes?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Very green.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
<i>What color of eyeshadows make your eyes pop?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Purples and pinks have the best effect on enhancing my eye colour. I find black makes the green in my eyes look brighter.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
<i>Do you use makeup brushes? What brand?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I use a combination of Crown brushes and Quo brand brushes.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
<i>Do you prefer lipstick, lipgloss, or neither?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Hmm. This depends. I really love light-coloured to red lipsticks, however anything darker than a candy-apple red I just cannot pull off. Lipgloss is either hit or miss with me; if it's too sticky, I can't wear it no matter how much I like the shade. If I had to choose though, I'd pick lipstick.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What's 1 makeup product you cant live without?</span></i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Foundation. Every artist needs to start on an even canvas.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><i>Why do you wear makeup?</i></span> </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Two reasons. First, when I was a teenager I never thought twice about my skin in the long run and didn't take very good care of it. I have a bit of acne scarring along my jawbone and on my forehead in small areas that I like to cover up, along with some pretty much permanent under eye circles (had them since I was a kid, plus weird sleep patterns don't help). Second, to enhance my facial features; I love how just a bit of eyeliner or some interesting eyeshadow combinations can really define your eye shape or brighten your entire face, for example.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><i>Glitter or no glitter?</i></span> </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">Heck yes! But not <i>too </i></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">much :)</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What is one makeup trend you never understood?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Oh god, where to start?? I'd say the worst would be that dark lip liner with nothing else on the lips. GAH! Just <i>what</i> is attractive about that? On the subject of drawn-on things...<i>Badly </i>drawn-on brows. I'm not against drawing on your eyebrows, but if it looks like your makeup is by Crayola I'm not intrigued.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Sponge or brush for applying foundation?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">Both are nice, however I'm better with a brush.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i>Pencil, gel or liquid eyeliner?</i></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Gel! It's so versatile.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Favorite era of makeup?</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">50's-60's looks were so elegant and timeless.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Finally, a tip you wish everyone knew:</span></i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Use an eyeshadow primer/base! I know it's simple but there are some people that don't use one and their eyeshadow ends up splotchy and uneven, plus it's a pain in the behind to blend out colours without it. If you don't have anything try using a liquid foundation mixed with the tiniest amount of translucent powder. It will make a world of a difference, trust me. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Well that was my makeup tag. Again feel free to comment with a link to yours, I'd love to read your own responses to these questions!</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">Till next time <3</span></span><br />

Oh well, time to play with makeup!<div><br />
</div><div><a href="http://glamourdolleyes.com/">Glamour Doll Eyes</a> is currently holding a contest for the month of March, of which the theme is your favourite cartoon. Growing up I was fascinated by Rainbow Brite, who I could probably pinpoint as being my root cause for being attracted to bright and bold colours. You can also enter the contest as many times as you like, so who knows what else I'll come up with! I'm thinking a Smurfs theme :)</div><div><br />
</div><div>Anyways, here's what my first entry looks like:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjus1zp7dieslqdVYGCWYmcuhnvzdG-P1Gs9mDyEQ3yFRmusdWCWW5tXzi2Rgtx53HcluTr4OiIcWCBsx0X46YGUCtya8TiVLAz9A22cgNNTM8TQtzYjh8jZnAMmqSj86JS3UfQVr1g-Fc/s1600/IMG_5933.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjus1zp7dieslqdVYGCWYmcuhnvzdG-P1Gs9mDyEQ3yFRmusdWCWW5tXzi2Rgtx53HcluTr4OiIcWCBsx0X46YGUCtya8TiVLAz9A22cgNNTM8TQtzYjh8jZnAMmqSj86JS3UfQVr1g-Fc/s320/IMG_5933.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I'm not a huge fan of naked tips and I'm one who basically needs colour in my life, so it's no surprise that those colours tend to be on the bold side. Duo chromes are no exception to this rule, as they're basically my favourite colour effect of all time. That's not just limited to makeup - I have a real affection for cars (especially late 60's - 70's muscle cars) and at a car show a few years back there was a 1970 Dodge Challenger with this AMAZING pink and gold duo chrome paint job. Ever since then I've dreamed of owning a pretty duo chrome-y Mustang :D<br />
Anyhow! Back to nails, haha.<br />
I've found the best way to get some really cool duo chromes is to layer a sheer, shimmery polish over a creme or more opaque shimmery shade. Thus was the case when I created this manicure right here (Please excuse my slight tip wear, work is rough on the nails)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgryMbuAXh1ymb6sq74uSjQ40R1nnUI00lOzD-0pTvcAZ32K54yAclKX69Cx4pk75Lam1lHU9t0umNLngUaJrzSot8EL82FpW5ozgQeSTD5fPexjcniAs6ToXuDrT66OQDXybf6tUpM2eU/s1600/IMG_5853.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgryMbuAXh1ymb6sq74uSjQ40R1nnUI00lOzD-0pTvcAZ32K54yAclKX69Cx4pk75Lam1lHU9t0umNLngUaJrzSot8EL82FpW5ozgQeSTD5fPexjcniAs6ToXuDrT66OQDXybf6tUpM2eU/s320/IMG_5853.png" width="262" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Amazing, don't you think? More pics and how I created this look after the jump! :)</div><a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Seriously, photos do NOT do this polish combination justice, it's that intense. I had such a hard time trying to capture the true quality of the colours, but none of these pictures got it right. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7b11vWVyFvjfsm7MnlLtwSSyXc9pinpc1PTWCJd7WiDvL1g7XgA54oDs-azUJHrO6FDx9FujjoGqSUFUf7puZLkZQwE3qqmTbR0qNpMR15BOiB9IDNMkSGVXGNjoLncfP-6Ye7HuNr-U/s1600/IMG_5855.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7b11vWVyFvjfsm7MnlLtwSSyXc9pinpc1PTWCJd7WiDvL1g7XgA54oDs-azUJHrO6FDx9FujjoGqSUFUf7puZLkZQwE3qqmTbR0qNpMR15BOiB9IDNMkSGVXGNjoLncfP-6Ye7HuNr-U/s320/IMG_5855.png" width="246" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">To create this manicure, I first applied two coats of Milani nail lacquer in <i>119 Totally Cool. </i>Here's what it looks like:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGVRrIhqu3ha9MKTU5q_80HbgJCv2bYFqBlHeksBqyFcOi3V-y2FX_V0p8NWF_NqQT0LrBisuXkej-1uWLjnxAlBEpjI1IU2C2pk1TmxgXXGLouP2mcL0BuaRESxQPTKFH6K_Jb0x7HcU/s1600/IMG_5860.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGVRrIhqu3ha9MKTU5q_80HbgJCv2bYFqBlHeksBqyFcOi3V-y2FX_V0p8NWF_NqQT0LrBisuXkej-1uWLjnxAlBEpjI1IU2C2pk1TmxgXXGLouP2mcL0BuaRESxQPTKFH6K_Jb0x7HcU/s320/IMG_5860.png" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Once the polish dried completely I went over it with a thin layer of Sinful Colors in <i>Let Me Go.</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMtYyqOqwmhQvxSLZwKmyKtlIh9FODLwWYlbtPfx0MVpZlLC8oVddUUegyJNapqiUKnC4xRM6d092VkfC_-TynoDKiKsDBXk-pw6Ilcr_bJI9-yQXC0atbimbW0RENbUzDzdAiP_V0Ft0/s1600/IMG_5861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMtYyqOqwmhQvxSLZwKmyKtlIh9FODLwWYlbtPfx0MVpZlLC8oVddUUegyJNapqiUKnC4xRM6d092VkfC_-TynoDKiKsDBXk-pw6Ilcr_bJI9-yQXC0atbimbW0RENbUzDzdAiP_V0Ft0/s320/IMG_5861.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After that's dried you'll want to protect it with a nice top coat. I used Seche Vite fast dry top coat.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">What I love about this combo is that <i>Totally Cool</i> already has an amazing purple-gold glass fleck that just barely shows through the top layer of <i>Let Me Go</i>, making this finish even more alluring. I tried to get a nice closeup of the effect, hopefully you can see what I'm talking about haha:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX0-qO4_bMRWcg72XnHfum2fDHra7MkoLzgnszFdiG22IubsS1n6366M1kj-itfk4xIUin4arz-wck0ACpkoKVHu7xBiVrkNXs3r8pqyvsbIecueQP-Cfc1PA7HseOFzBUZBO30zHE3Vs/s1600/IMG_5849.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX0-qO4_bMRWcg72XnHfum2fDHra7MkoLzgnszFdiG22IubsS1n6366M1kj-itfk4xIUin4arz-wck0ACpkoKVHu7xBiVrkNXs3r8pqyvsbIecueQP-Cfc1PA7HseOFzBUZBO30zHE3Vs/s320/IMG_5849.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">See the flecks? So pretty :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed my gushing of duo chromes. If you have any really cool combination suggestions, tell me about them in the comments!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Till next time <3</div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03732238374567470998noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986933833755863244.post-46205250760909469952011-03-01T16:13:00.000-04:002011-03-01T16:13:06.750-04:00Sparkling Sapphire Smokey Eye - FotDI think I'm developing an addiction to blogging, it's quite fun.<div>Well that, and I don't know how to shut up sometimes :P</div><div>Anyhow, Face of the Day (FOTD) time!</div><div>I've been playing with loose eyeshadows more than usual these days - shimmery pigments to be more specific - and using different coloured bases to give certain shades more dimension or depth. Such was the case when I created this deep blue smokey eye for today using <a href="http://www.sugarpillshop.com/">Sugarpill'</a>s loose eyeshadow pigment in Magpie. I found that by applying it over a smudged- out charcoal grey eyeliner, it toned down the intensity <i>just</i> enough to help smoke out the edges and blend into my skin more evenly. For added depth to my eye I applied a medium taupe colour to the crease and blended it slightly. Black eyeliner and mascara complete this fun twist on the typical smokey eye.</div><div><br />

I've decided to start a new feature on this blog, called Favourite Finds. Put simply, I'll be showcasing unique, interesting and eye-catching items that I've discovered here and there. This will be published at the end of each month and will feature anything from makeup to clothing and everything in-between! On a side note, this won't include only items I've purchased already - Just a list of some amazing brands/products/etailers that I think deserve mentioning :)<br />
So, let's get onto the goods! Keep reading to find out my February Favourite Finds :)<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
As of recently I've been on a huge earring kick. I tend to lean towards bold, statement-making styles (typical Michelle behaviour, of course) and especially love bright colours as well. When I came across <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/Stilltreejewellery?ref=pr_shop">Still Tree's shop on Etsy</a>, my mouth literally dropped open. Still Tree features handmade feather earrings in gorgeous designs and beautiful colour combinations. There isn't a single pair of earrings on their shop that I <i>don't</i> like, they're all so fascinating! What's even better is that they're eco-friendly and only buy from well-reputed suppliers. How cool is that?<br />
As I mentioned, every design on their site is amazing. If I had to pick a favourite pair though, these would take the vote:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggA14BM0rEY31xC4xl_q4uDfdAOn9d0eA4TIxsvpmlNADJxZNLMdBCT1Zqex03HzRs5z57VZuiPYKyhZhCZB-WMfjNM3zSaKq2f9L2eiSMLLrcAmWyAkAaizPZ6lhol92pK_kgcKcL9Qs/s1600/feathers.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggA14BM0rEY31xC4xl_q4uDfdAOn9d0eA4TIxsvpmlNADJxZNLMdBCT1Zqex03HzRs5z57VZuiPYKyhZhCZB-WMfjNM3zSaKq2f9L2eiSMLLrcAmWyAkAaizPZ6lhol92pK_kgcKcL9Qs/s320/feathers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>These are the 'Large Feather Earrings in Turquoise, Blue and Black'. I especially like how something as simple as feathers can create such a unique statement! If you'd like to check out Still Tree's online shop click <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/Stilltreejewellery?ref=top_trail">here</a> to go to their Etsy page.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div>While on the topic of Etsy sellers, can I just say that <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PassionateJewelry?ref=top_trail">Passionate Jewelry</a> looks like the next place I'll be maxing my credit card at?</div><div>Two words: <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Jewelry porn.</span></div><div>I'm not kidding! The creations on this shop are nearly mouthwatering. Passionate Jewelry Designs features handmade (yes, <i>handmade</i>) rings, necklaces and earrings with semi-precious gemstones such as garnet, blue topaz, amethyst and labradorite to name a few.</div><div>I cannot get over the fact that these are made by hand! This definitely makes each and every item extra special.</div><div>Why use "jewelry porn" to describe this shop, you say? Well, I think I had what could only be described as an <i>eyegasm</i> when I saw this ring:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWsKlh2ha8Cvk1v5H8lX2hDtyRY8zhq2vw1SoixFW_-uypq4578ezZ6UHxGgi_SiHrIu_DGbYdudtmi1N9UyUiw3RP3vgEf8MH8LNVdwcTQUb6Utu0HVWQ-2KQvbsYNvzELIDKGQX0ZEY/s1600/ring.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWsKlh2ha8Cvk1v5H8lX2hDtyRY8zhq2vw1SoixFW_-uypq4578ezZ6UHxGgi_SiHrIu_DGbYdudtmi1N9UyUiw3RP3vgEf8MH8LNVdwcTQUb6Utu0HVWQ-2KQvbsYNvzELIDKGQX0ZEY/s320/ring.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Simply breathtaking! Words cannot describe how much I love this. The fact that it's handmade only adds to my astonishment.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Link to Passionate Jewelry on Etsy right <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PassionateJewelry?ref=top_trail">here!</a></div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>Nail polish is pretty high up there on my list of favourite products, and of course I gravitate towards the statement-making shades. At the same time I have as much patience as a 6 year old. Recently I picked up a bottle of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish in Brisk Blue, and oh wow. The formula, brush, colour intensity and drying time are all incredible! This could easily be a one-coat wonder but for safety's sake I use two coats, just in case. I don't have a swatch photo at the moment as my camera is charging at the moment, but here's a photo of the bottle:</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr5wf4Qj8fStdZJHqJWPHT7l-ul_ohO7aXuueRYDgyoPEYpTVP4Eqsz5yZ6ocaf_TC9t2pVDv7unP-PNfmqwYfEzdKnaXYVA5fkk1fqSA9WZ71jb0ZpuNctlJW6BjqWD4jZ3-qjjBBbb0/s1600/2214084.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr5wf4Qj8fStdZJHqJWPHT7l-ul_ohO7aXuueRYDgyoPEYpTVP4Eqsz5yZ6ocaf_TC9t2pVDv7unP-PNfmqwYfEzdKnaXYVA5fkk1fqSA9WZ71jb0ZpuNctlJW6BjqWD4jZ3-qjjBBbb0/s1600/2214084.jpeg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'll add a swatch as soon as I can :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Foundation is probably my biggest issue with makeup. I can never find the best formula for my budget, let alone the exact match for my skin tone (I'm so pale that I put snow to shame) however the recently released Natureluxe foundation by CoverGirl seems to bide for that top spot pretty well. It's pretty lightweight for the coverage it provides (I'd say about a medium coverage overall, though you could definitely build this up) and does match my skin nicely. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWSZU9lTjVLBXazW3aZ2ccLXocE84PHWeKbs9fCrvOhwRRvKDKptPFZnKfQwW5HPa-ZgleIn6PwCMy_Rdw_goLsuPIvpL3AXGu8VyFGlFoPtWByB7q5mgyarq7vkfPredYe2twB7hGZVw/s1600/PG-3511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWSZU9lTjVLBXazW3aZ2ccLXocE84PHWeKbs9fCrvOhwRRvKDKptPFZnKfQwW5HPa-ZgleIn6PwCMy_Rdw_goLsuPIvpL3AXGu8VyFGlFoPtWByB7q5mgyarq7vkfPredYe2twB7hGZVw/s320/PG-3511.jpg" width="174" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My best match happens to be in the shade 305 - Alabaster, if you're curious.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you do decide to use this and want long-lasting wear I highly suggest setting it with a translucent powder, as it does tend to budge on me without it. Other than that, great find and happy I tried this out. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

There's so many factors to the chilly season that I just do not enjoy: the snow and icy weather, how it gets dark incredibly early in the evenings, power outages and the COLD, above all the cold. Being cold is one of the worst feelings in the world to me (granted I like to feel chill in the summer, as second on that list of Worst Feelings Ever is hot/humid weather) so you can imagine how much I "enjoy" being a Canadian for about 5 months a year.<br />
And oddly enough I'm a December baby :P<br />
Around this time of year I start to really feel the drag of winter's chill, and wish more than ever for spring to finally arrive and melt the snow already. Dreaming of green grass, the smell of a fresh April rain and flowers sprouting keeps me positive, though. Thus was the case when I created this shimmery green eye look. This colour is so amazing, having almost a duo-chrome effect. I applied it to a dark brown base to really warm up this emerald shade, and blended it out to create a smokey, wearable eye that pretty much screams springtime.<br />

What's new to me, however, is the idea of using lace instead to make floral or decorative patterns instead. I played around with some smokey purple shades from my 88 Coastal Scents palette and experimented with two different styles of lace to achieve this look here:<br />

Theatrical, full-face, eye-catching and <i>GLITTER</i> oh my goodness glitter, I'm a huge fan of the daring and bright looks. It was no surprise that I took advantage of the mythical beings and legends contest that <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/MissChievous">MissChievous on YouTube</a> held back in October. The challenge was to create a dramatic look inspired by a mythical creature or legend of your choice, and after doing some research I decided on channeling a sea nymph, or nereid as they are formally called in mythology. Lots and lots of blue facepaint, glitter and eyeshadow later this was the look I came up with:<br />

They're intense, rich, and incredibly pigmented. As well, they carry only the brightest, boldest and <i>"Oh wow, pretty!"</i> colours I adore. At some point in the near future I hope to write a full review of their eyeshadows, but for now a little blue to brighten up your day!<br />
I created this look using Sugarpill's After Party. After Party is a shocking electric blue shadow that is very intense. It applies very evenly and blends superbly, and provides that bright pigment payoff that Sugarpill is famous for. I only wish I was able to get more than one picture before my camera died, cause I love the way this turned out!<br />

I've never hated the idea of Valentines Day nor have I ever been "anti-Valentine"myself. In all honesty if anything I find the idea of the once-a-year day devoted to love and admiration to be quite silly. In my opinion we should be able to express our <s>addiction to chocolate</s> adoration for our significant other everyday of the year.<br />
Unless you're married, then you could use the break. :P<br />
Regardless, when I found out about a contest that <a href="http://glamourdolleyes.com/">Glamour Doll Eyes</a> was hosting, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to try a look inspired by my own interpretation of something anti-Valentines Day. I wanted to create something smokey and bold, primarily using bright reds and a dark crease colour. I wouldn't call this look wearable, but it definitely screams "anti-Valentines" to me.<br />

I hope my crazy tendencies don't scare you away. Hehe :P<br />
I've always been an incredibly creative individual, yet never truly understood how to express myself through it.<br />
Over the past few months, makeup has become the creative outlet that I've been searching for, and I'm constantly learning and practicing new techniques. As I progress and grow from my trials and (sure to be many) tribulations, I'll keep you updated with pictures and even videos from time to time.<br />
If nothing else I hope you will enjoy what I have to offer, and perhaps learn a thing or two along the way.<br />
Thanks for visiting!Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03732238374567470998noreply@blogger.com1
